01 — Testing & accreditation

Independently tested and government approved Securablinds® Blast and Forced Entry Protection Systems

Securablinds® are patented security blind systems designed to enhance the protection of personnel, facilities, and critical infrastructure against explosive blast effects and forced entry attacks. Installed over windows and door openings, the systems provide a robust physical protection solution for high-security environments.

Developed through extensive engineering and independent testing, Securablinds® have been deployed across government, diplomatic, financial, transport, and other security-sensitive facilities where resilience against physical threats is a critical requirement.

The systems have undergone rigorous explosive testing in the United Kingdom, demonstrating their ability to withstand significant blast loads and mitigate the effects of explosive events on buildings and occupants.

Independent testing conducted by ComBlast during UK Government explosive trials confirmed system performance against blast loads equivalent to:

  • 100 kg TNT at 31 meters
  • 500 kg TNT at 28 meters

Selected Securablinds® products have also achieved forced entry resistance accreditation following specialist attack testing conducted on behalf of UK Government security authorities, including the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI).

As a result of successful testing, accreditation, and evaluation, Securablinds® are approved for use by UK Government departments and agencies where enhanced physical security measures are required.

Securablinds® products have additionally received forced entry accreditation from the United States Department of State, supporting their deployment within diplomatic facilities, government infrastructure, and other high-security sites internationally.

Key benefits

  • Independently tested blast mitigation capability
  • Accredited protection against forced entry attacks
  • Approved for UK Government use
  • Accredited by the United States Department of State
  • Suitable for government, diplomatic, defence, and critical infrastructure applications
  • Minimal impact on building operations and aesthetics when deployed
02 — Patented technology

Patented blast absorption technology

The effectiveness of the system lies in its unique patented structural design, which enables the blinds to respond dynamically to explosive pressure waves.

When a blast occurs, the positive pressure wave automatically forces the blind into a closed position, creating an immediate protective barrier across the opening.

The structure of the blind then absorbs and disperses the blast energy through a combination of engineered components, including:

Engineered components

  • High-strength aluminium blades
  • Reinforced steel rods
  • Specialised compression bushes connecting the blades to the internal frame

These patented fastening mechanisms allow the blind to absorb extreme pressure loads through controlled deformation, preventing catastrophic failure while maintaining protective performance.

03 — Engineering & manufacturing

Built on nearly two decades of testing

The current design specification is the result of nineteen years of development and blast testing, which has refined both the structural configuration and manufacturing process.

Precision engineering techniques are applied during production, particularly in the steel bending and welding stages, to ensure maximum strength and structural integrity.

Manufacturing processes comply with ISO 9001:2015 quality standards, ensuring consistent quality control at every stage of production.

Securablinds® systems are manufactured in the United Kingdom and are available in multiple configurations and specifications to suit different building requirements.

04 — Blast testing on video

Proven performance in blast testing

Testing has demonstrated the system’s ability to maintain structural integrity even under significant explosive loads.

During trials involving a 100 kg TNT equivalent explosion at 31 metres, the Securablinds® system showed only minimal structural damage. The blast’s negative phase pulled the anti-shatter film and glass fragments back toward the source, reducing internal hazard.

Further testing with a 500 kg TNT equivalent blast at 28 metres showed the blades undergoing controlled deformation. This bowing effect illustrates how the system absorbs and dissipates blast pressure while maintaining its protective function.

These results demonstrate the system’s ability to manage extreme pressure forces without structural collapse, providing valuable protection for building occupants and assets.

05 — Forced entry

Certified resistance to forced entry

In addition to blast performance, Securablinds® systems have undergone CPNI attack testing for forced entry resistance.

The testing process involved specialist security personnel using enhanced toolsets to attempt forced access to the system. The successful results led to official accreditation for forced entry prevention.

Importantly, all forced entry tests are conducted without a window or frame installed in front of the blind. In real installations, the presence of glazing and framing would further increase the time required to breach the system.

06 — Installation

Flexible installation and secure integration

Securablinds® can be installed across a wide range of building types and opening sizes.

To ensure secure installation where the unit size differs slightly from the structural opening, steel angle packers may be fitted to one or both sides of the blind frame. These components ensure the system is securely anchored and maintains its structural integrity during extreme loading.

This installation approach allows the system to be integrated into both new buildings and existing structures.

07 — Deployments

Trusted worldwide

Securablinds® security blinds have been installed in numerous high-security locations around the world, supporting both government and commercial organisations.

Installations include

  • Government buildings and embassies
  • National infrastructure and transport networks
  • Police and security facilities
  • Financial institutions and banking facilities
  • Hospitals and healthcare buildings
  • Commercial and educational facilities

International deployments include installations for United Nations facilities, the Canadian High Commission in London, and projects associated with the US Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO).

In the United Kingdom, installations include major organisations such as GCHQ, multiple police authorities including the Metropolitan Police and Thames Valley Police, as well as critical infrastructure operators including Network Rail, London Underground, National Grid, and BT.

The private sector also relies on Securablinds® systems, with installations protecting financial institutions including Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, Barclays, NatWest, ING, and Migros Bank, as well as cash-handling facilities operated by SWIFT in the United States.
